Compliance schemes have been informed by DEFRA that in order to meet targets in 2019 they will need to increase their collections by 12%. With the yearly target for 2019 seen to be an increase of around 13,000 tonnes to be collected in comparison to 2018, this could be seen as a challenge for the schemes.
The schemes have said that they feel the targets could be unachievable but processors of the waste have welcomed the increase in targets as it will encourage higher volumes to be processed through their facilities.
